Edward Clifford "Bud" Nott, Jr., Class of 1954

Edward C. “Bud” Nott, Jr., 84, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Greystone Assisted Living Center in Iola, KS after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and cancer. He was born March 4, 1932, in Abilene, TX to Clifford and Alene (Drennen) Nott. He graduated from Abilene High School.
He entered UT in the fall of 1950 and joined the Naval ROTC Unit. At UT Bud was also a member of the Mariners Club, an organization for NROTC Midshipmen at UT, designed to promote fellowship on a social level and to develop a greater esprit-de-corps among the members of the NROTC unit. He was also a member of Phi Eta Sigma, an honorary scholastic fraternity. He was also a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, the Silver Spurs and the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and Institute of Radio Engineers. In his senior year he was inducted into Scabbard & Blade. Bud graduated in May 1954 and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy.
Bud married Patsy Ruth Davies in 1954 and started his Navy career. He was a Navy pilot and over the course of his 22-year career the family moved frequently with his deployments to diverse locations around the United States and the world. He earned a MBA degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, while in the Navy. The family eventually settled in Colorado Springs, CO in 1971, where Bud was the chief naval intelligence officer at NORAD until his retirement in 1977. In 1970, Bud received the Navy Commendation Medal for his work in antisubmarine warfare while stationed in Iceland. He retired at the rank of Commander.
After his military career, Bud founded Omni Executive Recruiters, which specialized in recruiting professionals in the mining industry. He retired in 1996 after leading the company for over 20 years.
Bud traveled extensively and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying skiing, biking, and hiking, especially around the family's beloved cabin in southern Colorado.
Bud was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnne Nott Clark; and by his wife, Patsy. He is survived by his children: Deborah Nott, La Veta, CO; Jerry Nott (Merrie), La Veta, CO; Judy (Nott) Works (Fred), Iola, KS; and Monte Nott (Teri), Monument, CO; and grandchildren: Cody, Sam, and Emma Nott; Dylan, Abby and Colby Works; and Gareth and Maya Nott.
